Headrick Joins Coastal Plains League Organization

December 18, 2009

Darren Headrick will have a new home this summer to broadcast collegiate summer league baseball. Headrick has been named the Director of Broadcasting for the Wilson Tobs, a member of the Coastal Plains League.

Headrick will broadcast all 56 Tobs games this summer, in addition to hosting the pre and post game programming. His responsibilities also include media relations and handling daily game preparation, as well as various duties around the front office.

Many collegiate summer league jobs require broadcasters to go to bat at several spots in an organization's lineup. The Tobs are no exception. "I am very excited to take on a new challenge filled with responsibilities, Headrick said. That’s what I need at this point. I just need the experience to build the confidence and take it to another level."

A University of Tennessee graduate, Headrick is making the move east after spending the past two seasons as studio host for the Tennessee Smokies. "I have used my time working with Mick Gillispie at Tennessee to lay the foundation," Headrick said. "Now I want to build the house with the Tobs".

The Tobs home is Historic Fleming Stadium in Wilson, NC. Headrick said he fell in love with the old ballpark the first time he saw it. “I came by over the summer when the Smokies were playing against Carolina, he said. The area is truly beautiful. The ballpark looks like something straight out of a movie.”

The Wilson Tobs are a member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 13th season, the Coastal Plain League features 15 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts.
